The Simple Woman's Daybook for March 16, 2009

FOR TODAY (March 16, 2009)...

Outside my window...It looks cloudy and rain is coming.

I am thinking...in four weeks, we will begin the work that the Lord has called us to do. Not to say it hasn't been work already, lol. Our first service is April 12 and we now have a (temporary) place to meet!

I am thankful for...discipleship and watching people grow in the Lord.

From the learning rooms...the end is in sight! For a few subjects anyway :o) I have seen tremendous improvement in my 8 year the last few months...very exciting.

From the kitchen...We have not made whole wheat bread in several months, I think that will be on the to-do list today.

I am wearing...a white top, tan skirt...barefoot.

I am creating...Assignment sheets for this week.

I am going...absolutely nowhere today....how nice :o).

I am reading...Joshua in my Bible study; "Are you Serious About Marriage?" by Susan Zakula, a friend and I are going through this book together and discussing it each week; "Henry and the Great Society" by H. L. Roush Sr. Both of these books can be found at the Keepers of the Faith website.

I am hoping...we get some extra school done today so we don't have to worry about it tomorrow when we go to our friends house.

I am hearing...the piano and guitar, alternating back and forth. My oldest daughter is learning the guitar now, her friend let her borrow his guitar and she is catching on quickly.

Around the house...little boys are playing, 3 have started school, house is still in the "messy weekend mode"....I need to take care of that ;o).

One of my favorite things...The BIG library downtown. We went on Saturday, just the
girls and I. We had a great time!

A few plans for the rest of the week: We are going to a friends house on Tuesday. On Saturday, the girls' Sunday School teacher is throwing a going away party for them.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

My lilac tree is springing to life. It is usually in full bloom by mid-April. Spring is just around the corner...

The Simple Woman's Daybook for March 9, 2009

FOR TODAY (March 9, 2009)...

Outside my window...It is a beautiful, sunny day, 52 degrees! Spring is on it's way :o)

I am thinking...that it would be nice to just stay home this week.

I am thankful for...finding a temporary place to meet for our church plant that is starting soon.

From the learning rooms...a slow start on this Monday, we still have not adjusted to the time change so school went a bit slowly today.

From the kitchen...nothing tonight! My eldest daughter and I are going to the ladies meeting at church tonight and will eat there. My husband told me not to worry about them, he would take care of it!

I am wearing...a green top, navy and green floral skirt, sandals

I am creating...nothing right now...I need a new part for my sewing maching, I have big plans though! I am starting to plan for this years garden too.

I am going...on my way to church this evening.

I am reading...The Lady the Lord is Looking For, Proverbs 31 by Cathy Corle. A friend and I are reading this together and discussing it each week.

I am hoping...that what I have is just a cold and not allergy season starting already :o(

I am hearing...children playing outside after their school is complete for the day.

Around the house...remnants of laundry folding day...

One of my favorite things...my children when they first get up for the day and want to just sit by me, just to be close.

A few plans for the rest of the week:

I still need to make my meal plan. I have been stocking up on groceries so I probably won't need to go back to the store. Need to get tags for the van.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

My excited boys, after helping dad build me this new grocery shelf for the back of the van. They got to measure and hammer, dad did the cutting, lol. (I love it!)

The Simple Woman's Daybook - Feb 9, 2009

FOR TODAY (February 9, 2009)...

Outside my window...It is bright and sunny and the temp is now up to 35! Yay! The last 2 days it has been in the 50's...almost all the snow and ice is all gone. It is nice to see the brown grass again :o) I have the feeling that Spring Fever will quickly set in around here.

I am thinking... about our van search. We found one in a different state that we like...we'll see...

I am thankful for...God's grace & mercy that is new every day.

From the learning rooms...We had a great week of school last week and I am anticipating more of the same. Everyone got all their assignments done for the whole week! We had some fun learning too....good stuff that you just don't get in the textbooks ;o)

From the kitchen...I hear the dishwasher running. It seems like everyone forgets that we still have dishes to do on Sunday...they just don't get done and it makes for a lot of kitchen work on Mondays.

I am wearing...a tan skirt, black top, barefoot.

I am creating...nothing...I have a to-do list though. Someone from church just gave me 2 sewing patterns for culottes...I'd like to get started now so the girls will have them in plenty of time for spring and summer.

I am going... to watch Fireproof with my husband for the second time before we return it to our friends. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the movie :o)

I am reading...Leviticus in my Bible reading, Multiple Bles8ings by Kate Gosselin for fun.

I am hoping... to get to spend some time with my mother-in-law this week, she is moving to South Carolina on the 16th. We are sad :o(

I am hearing...the boys are playing "police" with Ben's new toys, the girls are working some math problems on the white board.

Around the house... Except for the kitchen, the house is still pretty much clean (woohoo!)

One of my favorite things...is seeing the "lightbulb" go on for the first time when one of my children "get" something that I have taught them.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Hopefully, another good school week. Shopping for a van when we get our tax money. Getting my schedule finished and put into action. We are also starting a family challenge...no sugar for 6 weeks! We have done this before and it was wonderful. Somehow it slowly crept back in our lives :o( I'll keep ya posted on how it goes!

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

My birthday boy at his party :o)

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY (December 8, 2008)...

Outside my window...there is already snow on the ground! It snowed Saturday, so it is past the point of being pretty ;o)

I am thinking...about my growing to-do list this week. December is always busy, no matter how hard we try to cut out unnecessary things.

I am thankful for...God's mercies that are new every day. I am just so undeserving. I want to please Him in all that I do, in my thoughts also.

From the learning rooms...we are having a slow-go December. We are just concentrating on the three R's.

From the kitchen...I am baking 10 dozen chocolate cherry cookies for the Ladies Meeting at church tonight.

I am wearing...a green top and jean skirt, comfy while baking today!

I am creating...quilt wall hangings, the invisible nine patch, for Christmas gifts.

I am going...to a cookie exchange with the ladies at church tonight.

I am reading...Psalms in my Bible and The Confession by Beverly Lewis for fun.

I am hoping...to get some stuff listed on EBay today for some extra $$$.

I am hearing...noisy boys :o)

Around the house...Christmas music is playing and the decorations are up. It looks so pretty.

One of my favorite things...sewing! It is one of those things that if I don't make time for, it will never happen.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Someone from church is coming over for dinner tomorrow night and is going to give my oldest daughter some pointers with the piano. Friday night is our Bible study, and Saturday is choir practice for our cantada. Doesn't seem like a very simple week.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

This one is for my mother-in-law. I am not a good "finisher". I still have to finish one seam at the bottom, I can't seem to do the "stitch in the ditch" so I just zig-zagged around it with white thread and it looks pretty good. I hope she likes it! I found the tutorial here.

Simple Woman's Daybook November 3, 2008

FOR TODAY (November 3, 2008)...

Outside My Window... It is going to be a beautiful week, with temps in the 60's!

I am thinking... about organizing all the toys and what a long process it will be.

I am thankful for... a godly husband. The Lord is just so good.

From the learning rooms...
We are on our week-long vacation from school. We have been looking forward to this for a while. I am praying it helps us get re-energized to get back into the swing of things!

From the kitchen... Today I will be making pumpkin puree from our pumpkins to freeze. I will roast the pumpkin seeds too!

I am wearing... a tan top and light blue jean skirt.

I am creating... a blog (until we get our website up and running!) for our new church plant!

I am going... to clean out my garden beds this week. The temps are going to be great and we have the time to do it.

I am reading...Proverbs. I never tire of Proverbs.

I am hoping... to get everything done that I have planned for my week.

I am hearing... coughing & sneezing, cold season is upon us.

Around the house... the kids are cleaning their rooms and have some laundry folding to catch up on from last week. I like to fold items as they come out of the dryer....it just didn't happen last week :o(

One of my favorite things...
Homemade quilts. My great-grandma has made quilts for many years. They all have a story behind them. I have made a couple doll quilts, but nothing big. I think I am going to start quilting for real ;o) .

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Create a tighter schedule for our school work and chores. We have been getting most of our things done, but I want to tweak it a bit. I am also going to catch up on sewing projects/mending, our election unit study, processing the rest of our apples, freezing pumpkin puree from our pumpkins, etc... whew! This will be the busiest week off ever!

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

We were visiting friends last week and my friend gave me this beautiful quilt wall hanging. It is done in the Log Cabin pattern and has browns, oranges, fall colors. I love it! I have it draped over the back of our deacon's bench.

Simple Woman's Daybook Oct 27, 2008

FOR TODAY (October 27,2008)...

Outside My Window...The sky is overcast and it is cold today! The leaves are absolutely gorgeous!

I am thinking...we have a busy week ahead and I want to make sure I don't get behind on my responsibilities.

I am thankful for...Old Fashioned Day at church yesterday. The children and I wore the costumes that I made for our Williamsburg trip earlier this year. Last night, the service was lit by lantern lights and it was just beautiful. The message really spoke to my heart.

From the learning rooms...We are ending our 1st quarter this Friday and we are sooo excited! We are taking a week off next week and really looking forward to our election unit study and some down time. I will be planning next quarter also.

From the kitchen...I will be starting my applesauce and apple butter today, the house will smell delicious ;o)

I am wearing...a brown skirt and cream colored top.

I am creating...a meal plan! (one that hopefully I will follow this week)

I am going...to my mother-in-law's house for dinner this evening. It will be a fun time. We go about once per month for dinner, but October is always special because she makes her yummy pumpkin patch for dessert...a real treat that the children always look forward to.

I am reading...Proverbs. I never tire of Proverbs. I sometimes read it along with my Bible Reading Plan, or sometimes if I have gotten burned out on it (sad to say that I do sometimes get burned out on my reading plan), then I read it to get refreshed. Probably one of my favorite books in the Bible.

I am hoping...to begin quilting. My great-grandma was a wonderful quilter. She is 97 now and can't do it anymore. She has made beautiful quilts with wonderful stories behind them.

I am hearing...
Around the house...
almost everyone slept in...a usual Monday thing. I let the children sleep in a bit and our schedule begins a little later on Mondays and Thursdays (after being at church the evening before).

One of my favorite things...getting everything done that I have set out to do in a day. I have such a sense of accomplishment. I wish it happened more frequently ;o)

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week:
Tonight, dinner at Mother-in-Law's house. Tomorrow, soup dinner and Revival service at some friends' church, Wednesday, our regular church Bible study, Thursday, NOTHING; Friday is our church plant Bible Study, and Saturday is our Family Fun Night, just us here at home.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

I took this last night at our lantern service. I thought it just looked so pretty.

Simple Woman's Daybook Oct 20, 2008

FOR TODAY (October 20, 2008)...

Outside My Window...another beautiful autumn morning...frost on the ground, chill in the air, bright sunshine.

I am thinking...that I will be posting some of my favorite apple recipes over the week. We have made a few things so far.

I am thankful for...good, godly friends :o) (you know who you are)

From the kitchen...nothing right now....I need to start my apple butter though. I can get it started and let it simmer all night in my roaster...YUM! I think I may make a few loaves of pumpkin or zucchini bread today.

I am wearing...cream-colored top and brown skirt

I am creating...a meal plan for the week.

I am going...hopefully no where today...it will be nice to just stay home.

I am reading...Bible-almost done with 2 Samuel. Taking me a long time for some reason. I read Daniel on Wednesdays to prepare for our Bible study at church. Just for fun- one of my freebie magazines on home decorating.

I am hoping...that I feel better soon. I drank like 4 cups of hot cider on Saturday night and my blood sugar went up and my head has hurt since then. I know better. I almost never drink something with a lot of carbs, let alone 4 cups!

I am hearing...my children excited about watching the house across the street get a new roof?

Around the house...my sweet husband and sons cleaned the house last night after the girls and I left for choir practice. Ahhh....so nice to come home to.

One of my favorite things...the smell of cooking apples.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Yesterday was the 3rd anniversary of my grandma dying, I may go to the cemetery. This Friday is the first Bible study for our new church plant (April 2009) to lay the foundation. Our church is having old fashioned day this Sunday....we are wearing our colonial costumes that I made for our trip to Williamsburg!

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

My husband giving a devotion at the bonfire Saturday night. It was a gorgeous sunset, crisp fall air, bonfire, warm cider, just a beautiful time!

The Simple Woman's Daybook- Oct 13, 2008

FOR TODAY (October 13, 2008)...

Outside My Window...it is cool but will be in the low 80's again....another gorgeous October day. The air smells crisp and clean.

I am thinking... about our new church plant coming in the spring, Old Paths Baptist Church. We are starting a Bible study on our side of town as the beginnings of it. My husband has a projected timeline of how things will take place. Lots of work to be done!

I am thankful for...My Melissa making a decision a few weeks ago to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as her Saviour. My husband was privileged to get to baptize her last night.

From the kitchen... nothing yet....I still need to make my meal plan (which has been a little inconsistent). Later this week we will be canning applesauce and apple butter.

I am wearing... tan skirt, black top with embroidered tan flowers, barefoot, hair still wet from shower.

I am creating... I made new curtains for my bathroom on Friday; I am currently making new skirts for the girls.

I am going... to my moms on the way to the orthodontist to pick up coupons. After the orthodontist, we will head to the CVS across the street from the office to visit our friend who is the manager there.

I am reading... Bible-I am still in 2 Samuel...I think I will begin 1 & 2 Thessalonians in a few days....sometimes I just miss being in the NT (is that bad?!). Just for fun-Beverly Lewis.

I am hoping... that kids aren't coming down with something. Two boys haven't been feeling well over the weekend.

I am hearing... The boys making weird sounds & voices to each other.

Around the house... I need to get some things back in order from the weekend. For the most part, it has stayed pretty clean (yay!).

One of my favorite things... a crisp autumn night and the smell of a wood burning stove in the air.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Kayleigh has an orthodontist appointment today; We are going to pick apples on Tuesday and make some apple butter. Later this week, we are going with some other families from church to pick pumpkins and attend a bonfire.

I am hearing...
our favorite Cammilleri's CD

Around the house...busy little bees are cleaning up from the long weekend

One of my favorite things...home....there is just no place like home :O)

Johnny's speech is cancelled this week, which is good imo, because it seems to cut right into our school day. He is close to "graduating" and I am looking forward to it!

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

My porch was just replaced on Thursday! (Remember, it blew down during Ike.) This one looks much nicer than our old one. I am looking forward to many evenings sitting under it :o)

Make sure you go to The Simple Woman to see more daybook entries. I enjoy learning about how the Lord is working in others' lives and how others' try to simplify their life.

From the kitchen...It is the perfect day for soup...haven't decided which kind yet, either potato or vegetable.
